Blog No. 34

My Picasso article will be in the Sunday Times Magazine this Sunday.   And I'm on London Tonight on Friday talking about the Udderbelly event.

Sorry to call this blog 34 but I thought nobody would notice if it was blog 33b.

Blog No. 34a.

London Tonight  is like Chicken Tonight but with bits of London in it.

Blog No. 34b.

Chicken Tonight is a TV show broadcast in the London area and aimed at the metropolitan chicken, it has features on chicken clubs, chicken fashion, poetry and literature written about and by chickens and regular music from Elaine Page.

http://www.itv.com/london/alexei-sayle04051/ - if you are in the UK only, otherwise a synopsis from someone who is?

"Alternative godfather

6.00PM Fri May 14 2010

He made his name as one of the founding fathers of so-called 'alternative comedy', which first made its mark in the 1980s.

The first MC at the Comedy Store when it opened, he went on to star with the Comic Strip team before winning awards for his own TV shows.

We are talking about Alexei Sayle.

And we've been talking to Alexei, because he's about to take to the stage again here in London."

@Le Amateur Domestique
The link doesn't work, probably because I'm outside the UK. Can anyone rip it and put in on YouTube?

Hey Alexie,

Loved your comedy since the "Young Ones" and the hilarious "Stuff" series, though I wish the official DVDs were available here in the States. Just wanted to let you know that I bought an LP copy of your 1985 album, Panic, and have converted all of the songs and comedy bits to excellent MP3 files. Each one cleaned up and sounding great. If you would like a copy for your digital archives, I'd be more than happy to send it. Thanks for all the laughs through the years.

Over 'the pond' it might be considered a good laugh, re-recording, but this side it's looked upon as copyright infringement which is malenky prestoopnick methinks. But, 'all property is theft' as someone with nothing worth nicking once said, or wrote or was mis-quoted as...

It's a just a wind-up I reckon. Look at his surname.

Why would I wind you up, Alexie. I purchased the LP for my own 80s music archive and wanted to share the digital versions with you in case you might not have them in your own collection, other than just the vinyl. I'm not infringing on copyright since there is no intention of selling or giving away the songs, other than to the actual individual that created them in the first place, and I own the record. If you don't want copies of the songs, no worries. It was just a friendly offer and thanks for all the great laughs you have given me. Also, I haven't re-recorded the tunes in any way, shape or form. They are original as from the LP, just cleaned up of any crackling, pops and hiss.

As for my surname, Dan, it is said "Swin-dell" (as in bell), not Swindle, as in to cheat someone. My family line does have that surname variation though and many others throughout historical reference, going back to Europe.

Hi Elak...it wasn't Alexei himself replying to you!!! Fish uploaded a digital version of The Fish People Tapes on here, seeing as Alexei probably owns the recording rights, he can give permission for it to be transferred and uploaded can't he?

Hi Elak,

Tried to post this earlier, but yarbles yarbles yearlbes. Clarification:

It was me that wrote the yarbles about copyright etc. not Signor Sayle! Sorry for any offense. Also, try 'googling' 'Alex Chelloveck', and you might see things in a different, slightly orange, light. Also, Signor Sayle as delegated paranoia about his work being ripped off to his fan base!.He's got a life, unlike me! Hey,it's cheaper than therapy.By the way, are you the same Elak Swindel as in http://www.blogged.com/profile/elaks ? If so, nice work. But, the beard simply has to go!!!

By the other way, did anyone here (Signor Sayle hopefully did, I presume) go to the 'Udderbelly' reading? If so, I'd like to know how it went. Hang on, it's in July. Well, any time travellers or mystics out there please let us know what the future holds.

Oh, and here's the link to the Times article: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/visual_arts/article7120079.ece

Time better spent than reading the mutterings of a demented soul like me. Cheers the drinks are on Signors Sayle and Picasso.

Yours,

Droog Alex

Should have proofread better; it's a dying art. I blame it on the spicy noodle sauce that splashed into my eye earlier (my pisstyping of the word 'has' that is, not the dying art bit). Anyway, should have read as follows - 'Also, Signor Sayle (h)as delegated paranoia about his work being ripped off to his fan base!.' I should have added that this is complete a fabrication on my part of course, and has no bearing on Signor Sayle's position on copyright laws or ownership of intellectual property in the UK, USA or elsewhere.

As an aside, on the subject of the 'dropped h'; if you are from the UK, or have seen Mary Poppins or Eastenders, you'll be familiar with the 'dropped h' as in - 'appiness' - etc. It's odd when 'posh people' (as opposed to fish people or others) drop or soften their 'r's it's considered 'correct'. Hey John gotta new motah! But, god forbid, 'ey John got a new motah'.Also, you can forget about 'yearbles'. Though it might be some kind of inflected form of the noun.

Someone mentioned about 'signing up' to post comments which usually comes with an 'edit' and/or delete option.I know you can edit before posting, but it's usually after the fact that the need for retractions, corrections and deletions become apparent I tend to think of comments a bit like when when viewers were encouraged to send their drawings into that 70s TV kids' program Vision On. One of the few TV programs that actually encouraged any kind of creative input from it's audience it has to be said. And the theme tune was pretty catchy too. Which is odd, considering it was intended for deaf viewers. I suppose they didn't want to exclude the able eared.

Yours,

Droog Alex

Yes, Droog Alex, that is my profile on Blogged and the beard stays. :) Cuts down on shaving. Glad you like the profile though. If you haven't visited my close friend's Inferno Music Vault blogsite yet, I highly recommend it. I have a lot of extended soundtracks I've put together on there.

Hey Elak, thanks for accepting my appypolly loggy with such good grace. Blessed brethren are the molocky cheese makers. The beard is kind of growing on me, well you that is.I can only manage a goatee and tache. Beard envy I guess. Didn't see any 'url' when you posted your reply. It saves messy searches. Saw some 'cartoons' posted on your site which made me think of the Robert Crumb's drawings.I see Mr. Sayle is still respledent on his couch. The armrests, in this case headrest, seems a bit spartan though. My eyes are increasingly drawn to the painting above. And, the edge of the other painting which looks like something to do with the Spanish countryside to my untrained glazzes. What's the story there I wonder?

May 31, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEl Droog

"Molocky cheese makers". Hahahaha. Good one. Not sure what toons you saw on my blogged profile, but I guess it might be Tex Avery related. I have all of his cartoons available for fans. I don't visit that profile much at all though. Normally I update my Facebook one on a regular basis with new additions and the like. You can find it here: http://www.facebook.com/Phaota?ref=profile. As for the Inferno Music Vault, there are links to it in the blogged profile, but here is a direct one for a quicker route: http://theinfernomusicvault.blogspot.com/. Glad to know the beard is, as you say, growing on you. Hahahaha. Moving from me to you, eh? ;)

Dear Alexei,
I am using this comment box under false pretences, I just want to thank you for speaking as you did on BBC last night, reminding people what has happened to the State Of Israel, and that many, many Jews, like myself and you, find it totally abhorrent.

What has happened is the result of repeated failure to act by the powers, especially the US, which holds the key to stopping this abomination. Guaranteed impunity has encouraged this rogue state to think it can get away with murder, literally, as it has been doing for a long time.

Thank you for using your notoriety to speak for people like me.

Brilliant, thank you mr Sayle, well said.

Cue barrage of vitriolic self-justifying hate mail. 'How dare you have convictions, and the audacity to air them in public, that runs contrary to ours Mr. Sayle. The facts of the matter are...' What do you think of the 'middle-east peace process'? All together now!
