Blog 68

Hi Evelyn.  Yes my writing has rather taken a back seat since I started thinking about stand up again.  Once the Soho Theatre dates are over (21st Jan-9th Feb)  I hope to go back to writing.  It has been great doing this tour though, I think with the way the publishing world has been changing recently I was starting to feel a little lost but now I have a new sense of purpose and I think a clearer idea of what I want to be writing.  Also I do have quite a lot of short stories I’ve written over the years so I may have something published next year, we’ll see.

And it is still a learning experience. cat you mention the Nelson Mandela bit and presumably other stuff about my activism.  It is not my intention for that to come across as bragging, indeed part of the joke is that all the benefits I do are generally for causes that are either lost or are doing badly thanks to my help but I think perhaps it might be a good idea if I highlighted that a bit more, so I’ll do that in January.  See I can take criticism.

Hesitantly, reluctantly, Alexei posted blog 68, and stood naked in the moonlight. Somewhere a clock chimed three. An owl hooted in the nearby copse. No wind stirred the casement window as he stood in the pale translucent light on the persian carpet. A minute passed. Then another. Then another minute. Then, another minute passed. Then another minute, passed. And another. A further minute passed quickly, followed by another minute, when suddenly, a different minute passed, followed by another different minute, and another, and yet another further different minute. A minute passed. I glanced at my watch. It was a minute past. This was it. A minute passed. After a moment, another minute passed. I waited a minute while a minute passed quickly past. And then a minute which seemed to last an hour but was only a minute, passed.

Hi Dan.
You see, you can write nice things when you try.
However, be aware, that as Alexei owns and pays for this site he can write what he likes, when he likes, and if he wants to stand naked in the moonlight for minutes on end instead of putting finger to keypad he is perfectly entitled to do so (as long as he doesn't frighten the animals).
Must go now, the clock is about to chime four so I have to go over to the copse and hoot again.

It's good to see Mr Sayle has better things to do than write nonsense on the internet these days... like talk it in public ... which is what he should be doing. Now I'm going to have a nice sleep at my desk.

A minute passed... Then another minute passed. Then anoth- hang on!

More short stories!! Fantastic.
Then another book, another memoir and the DVD release of the All New Alexei Sayle Show as well, please.

I always thought that Alexei's/your joke about supporting failed and failing causes comes across pretty well. It does in Stalin, anyway. (Isn't it mentioned explicitly?) And the opposite it true: you did quite a few jokes in an attempt to oust Margaret Thatcher - who, as we all know, blah blah blah.

One of my favourite bits about Mrs T. was the bit about assassinating her. Sending her a bottle of bleach with the warning about not drinking it crossed out.

So, you've been working on your stand up... Are you sure you've not been watching X Factor and Strictly?

(Sleep tight Tony M. Don't let the hooting owl wake you up...)

Dear Alexei,

Thanks very much for contributing a drawing for Dorset Wildlife Trust's current online Celebrity Art Auction. You drawing is currently live on eBay and will be available to bid for the next 9 days. If possible could you mention this to your fans as I'm sure there would be interest. Many thanks and Merry Christmas.

p.s. you are great

Well I think I'll kick this blog into touch. Fuck narcissistic ramblings about what you did and didnt do.

It's my own fault. Ben Eltons are ten a penny.
