Blog 65

Yes I have put in some live dates for the Autumn in small venues.  This will be a try-out to see if I can do a longer set of the type of material I did at the Soho Theatre earlier in the year.  I'll put the tours details on the site when they're finalised, it'll basically run through October and November about twenty dates I think.  I've got a few book readings coming up as well.  Newbury Corn Exchange this Saturday and Windsor arts centre on the 21st.  Also Welwyn Garden City on the 17th of August and Cardiff on the 25th of September.

At the moment if you go to the Telegraph website there's a very funny video of me being terrified in a Ferrari 458 at the festival of speed the weekend before last and I think there's a video of me driving a Aerial Atom as well, though I haven't looked at that yet.

I must say after a few months I really like writing for the Telegraph and they seem to like having me writing for them since they always put me on the cover of the motoring supplement.  I particularly like the photo of me this Saturday with the Atom looking heroic.  Plus I clearly drive a section of their readers absolutely bats with hatred judging by some of the things they post, which is also good.

Hello Dawn glad you enjoyed the book reading and its interesting to hear that you would have liked to hear more of the actual reading.  Sometimes I find it hard to judge if an audience is enraptured by my words or just bored so I sometimes bail out of the reading portion a bit too soon but I'll bear your words in mind next time I feel like doing that.  Still tickets for Windsor this Saturday.

Yes hopefully there will be dates in London next year, probably ten days in late Jan at the Soho Theatre.  The point of this little tour is partly just to do it but also to try and see whether I can put together a 50+ minute show for that venue.

Looks like you're going to be very busy! Hope it all goes well Alexei, it was great to see you do stand-up in Soho a few months ago. And folks on the fanpage do like your car reviews, though I didn't know you were on the front of the flipping supplements, need to find them on Ebay now!

Jay, wow. Bit stalkery? =)
Those Telegraph columns are great - even though I don't like cars.
Who remembers that sketch on The All New AS Show 2?
"I'm the sort of idiot who'd say 'If this car was a horse, it'd be a jam doughnut with an egg inside it"
It'd be good to get them on DVD. With commentaries (which the Stuff ones sadly lacked).

Russell, only a tad stalkery! I collect things. That's the accepted terminology for my behaviour anyway.... :)

I also really hope he does some dates in Manchester. I really hope you get a seat down at the front, and I really hope he vomits tropical fruit salad all over you. That would really be superb.

saw you at Newbury last night, enjoyed the evening, could have done with a bit more book reading!! just wanted to say, you didnt know of a political comedian now on the circuit. But you must know the brilliant Mark Thomas, who was at Greenham Arts, friday evening. I told him I was seeing you the next night and he said you were the reason he became a comedian. I bought his Little book of Manifestos which is soooo funny. I ment to bring it and give it to you and forgot it! 2 great evenings (actually I'm a steward who works as a volunteer for Corn Ex). xx

But will there be any further London dates?
Please say "Yes"!

We went to see you last night at Windsor and had a Very Nice evening. Thank you for making us laugh so much. I had been marking students' work all day so coming out to see you gave me a brief respite. I am now back marking students work, cherishing the memory of having had some enjoyment this weekend.

Hope your autumn gigs go well.

Looking forward to more Soho dates, last time out was a great night :)

I'm helping edit a series of quote anthologies for publication at the moment, and you've popped up four times so far. Fun for a saddo fan like me!

And you must be well pleased with the efforts of Bradley Wiggins in the Tour De France?

Alexei, I've just re-read your last blog because I am lonely. Anyway, you might get more volume of traffic on your Stalin and Mister Rogers Amazon numbers if you update the links on your website. Yours take you to the hardback editions, which I don't suppose sell all that well now the paperbacks are out? Hope this helps.
PS. Has Mister Roberts got any hidden meanings? Or perhaps it's allegorical? "Mister Roberts" and "Stalin" seem to contain similar motifs. I imagine I'm not the first person to spot the links?
(Any thoughts on this, comrades?)
Stewart Lee has an interesting part of his website seemingly dedicated to evaporating all the mystery behind the writing of his novel, and rendering all critical readings of it futile http://www.stewartlee.co.uk/press/perfectfool/footnotes.htm
Something I suppose the stupider element of his followers (me) found enlightening.
I'd love to see the footnotes to Train To Hell.

I just checkout Russell's point and on my machine the "Stalin" link went to an all formats selector (incliding large print and audio). The "Mr Roberts" link took me to The Alexei Sayle home page on Amazon where all the option were available for all the books.

Hi Bookie, that's peculiar because when I click the link it takes me to out of print hardcovers that are available from 'these sellers' with just the options of buying in other formats...
I pleasantly surprised though. I thought I was being overly attentive.
When I did visit the Alexei Home Page, I noticed Geoffrey the Tube Train was there. It was like being thrown back in time...

On blog 65a, right at the bottom, it says Booking fees may apply. I thought it was a hyperlink. I have tried clicking it twice now.

Hi Dan. If this were youtube I would 'thumbs up' your last comment.

Dear Mr Sayle,

I am freelance journalist based in Swansea and am very much looking forward to your performance on 13th October at the Grand Theatre. I would very much appreciate if you would grant me a short interview on the evening at whichever time suits you. Alternatively, I could email you a few questions if you wish.
I would be very grateful if you could grant me this opportunity.

Thanks,
Daniel Parry

More live Alexei. Cool.

Norman Tebbit is unexpectedly hilarious on telegraph blogs mainly because he feels the need to answer absolutely every single comment posted on DISQUS at the end of each new blog post resulting in a weird never ending soap opera of minor self justifications. He clearly does read every single comment too - all 600-800 or whatever ... and I thought I hadn't got a life.
